Abstract
Sensitive applications in semiconductor production, for preliminary products in fuel cell production and also in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products have special requirements for the surfaces of production systems or transport containers. Austenitic stainless steels with electropolished surfaces are frequently used here. This study compares the influence of different pre-treatments of electropolished surfaces on the topography achieved. Based on the results, it can be shown that previous mechanical surface treatments have a strong influence on the final surface. Based on the results, it is further discussed whether the existing bonding forces and thus the interaction with possible contaminations can be specifically influenced by influencing the previous mechanical surface treatment, such as grinding, in addition to the roughness of the surface.
