Abstract
The greatest challenge in the development of future drive systems is the necessity for sustainability. This requires not only the use of sustainably supplied energy, but also the inclusion of manufacturing and recycling processes as well as ultra-low emission levels.
Based on renewable energy, there are 3 possible paths with respective advantages and disadvantages: Battery Electric, Hydrogen based and E-(sustainable)Fuels in combustion (Hybrid)engines. The article evaluates these with regard to the criteria mentioned, with special consideration given to hydrogen in both fuel cells and combustion engines.
