Decarbonizing of Mobility – Challenges of Energy Transition and Solutions for Automotive Drives
Technical University Wien & Austrian Society for Automotive Engineers
Abstract
Decarbonization, or rather defossilization, is a human task in order to get the greenhouse gas problem and climate change under control. Mobility is particularly affected by this due to its almost complete dependence on oil and gas. According to politicians, alternative drives are the solution: e-mobility, battery-electric or with fuel cells, is even mandatory for passenger cars in Europe.
The lecture serves as an overall system view, from the global and European primary energy situation, to the possibilities of sustainable energy supply for the mobility sector, to the current maturity levels of sustainable powertrains and infrastructures.
Furthermore, possible solutions are identified and the effects on industry and users are shown.
